psychic probe

Post by JustJeff »

Playing a game and bought Psychic Probe. I never got the option to use it though after others rolled. I pointed it out and the other players noticed I wasn't getting the option. I wanted to abandon the game without penalty for everybody. They all refused and chose to force me to play anyways. I didn't, got expelled, and lost the ELO points, because it was an Arena game. Also going to lose karma. Great community here on BGA

In the game you are talking about, you played with the game developper.
If something went wrong, they would have been the first to inquire what was the issue.

No one ever forces you to play. If someone disagrees with the abandon (it's a competitive game and players already invested time in this game), then you either accept to play with the situation (and cooperate with the dev to help fix a potential bug), or you leave the game. Running the clock isn't fun for anyone, especially if there is an attitude issue.

That's right !
In fact, I fixed some bugs yesterday evening, and this was the game I played to checked everything was still fine after fix deployment.
I check what I think need to be tested before deploying, but I made a small mistake that shouldn't have impacted Psychic Probe but it did.

as soon as the player told there was a bug, I checked on my side, saw it was just a little glitch in the code, and fixed it right away. A few game turns after the player reported it, it was fixed. I told him it was fixed, I apologized for the bug, and he confirmed it was fixed.

Then he asked in the chat for an abandon. The game could continue, the bug was fixed and he was still ahead in the scores (so unadvantaged by the bug but still well positionned in the game). We told him we could continue the game as the bug was fixed but I wanted abandon, so I asked for collective abandon, but someone else refused it.
Then he asked us to expell him, and even if I apologized again and told we could still finish this game, he stopped playing until someone kicked him.

So JustJeff sorry again for the bug, it was my fault, and sorry someone didn't want to cancel and restart the game. But for the expell / karma loss, it was your choice.

Sounds like the kind of player who would flip the table if someone accidently misplayed and moved the wrong piece!

It's annoying but as the quote goes "the goal of the game is to win, but it's the goal that's important, not the winning"

Bravo to Thoun for playing games to check these changes and reacting so quick. A lot of devs I'd imagine would blind change then see if anymore bugs were raised! :)
