Tournament elimination due to someone else timing out

7 wonders tournament ... at some point someone is out of time and another person calls to stop the game. As a result I'm ranked on the position that knocks me out of the tournament completely. How to explain that!

There is no fair solution when a player times out in a "multiplayer elimination" tournament.

Finishing the game by skipping their turn is usually an unfair advantage to someone else.

Using the current score to determine who advances isn't fair to players who could have done better if the game finished.

The only solution that sort-of works is that everyone advances except for the player who timed out.

But that's not how it works. I was kicked out of a Sushi Go tournament today because one player did about one move every day in my sleep, so my timer ran out the most of the players left, someone clicked the button and I finished in third because my 'thinking time' was the lowest, although I was online about sixteen hours per day and was ahead in points.

It's absolute bollocks that people can advance and knock other players out only because they just click a button and had the most luck in in keeping their time in reserve.

I was kicked out of a Lost Ruins of Arnak tournament game today because I was paired up with three other people from Europe/Russia so it was always back to me as my turn at 1am my time. I had no hope of not timing out. The ridiculous thing is the game still had 2 days left to finish but the one player booted me as soon as my time ran out then proceeded to quit the game themselves with no penalty. How does that make any sense? Sure my time ran out but I think we still had a chance to finish the game in the allotted time.

Once someone is out of time and booted, the other players are considered "tied". They randomly pick the people who advance when that happens. If it's "5 players 3 advance", then the player in 4th place should boot you because it's their only hope of advancing.

This is just a flaw of the tournament system, where you can get timezone screwed. (I.e., it's your move at 1am so you always lose 7 hours thinking time while sleeping, but other players lose little time while sleeping).

If you're going to play a turn-based tournament game, it looks like the only way to do it is to pick a tournament where they give enough thinking time (at least 40 hours so you can not time out when you sleep) and preferably a game like 7 Wonders where everyone takes their turn simultaneously (so there's less waiting time. In 7 Wonders, if it's your turn while you sleep, you get to take TWO moves when you wake up (finishing the previous turn and starting the next one).

I avoid tournaments now that are 24 hours and/or don't have most of the time when I'm sleeping as time turned off after my one experience in a Lucky Numbers Tournament where I'm not sure any game ever completely finished.

In azul tournaments with "2 players advance", when a player is kicked out of the game because of clock, the 2 qualified players are the 2 who had to play first and second after him, the eliminated player is always the one who played just before the kicked out. No matter time remaining or anything else.

It seems it was the same thing here for you, playing just before coleman07, so eliminated.

It is not fair, when you know you won't be in the better scores (but at the good places at the table) you just have to kick out to be qualified. No matter score, or clock (even if you are negative too !)
A real random, or the players with more time would be a better thing imho.

In my opinion, the decision to boot someone off shouldn't be a single decision, almost in a given period.
Guys kicking out a player out of time who was still playing, because they were losing is just unbearable.
A "vote" needing at first all the other players agreement could be implemented, and after that, in case of disagreement, an extra time given before allowing one-way kick.

Oui, ce serait une bonne solution qu'il y ait plusieurs joueurs qui choisissent d'expulser un joueur en retard, plutôt qu'un seul. Cela limiterait les abus.

When it's in the last turn of a game and the point could easily be count (in Kingdomino the last tile could be only put in the last space) we shouldn'd be kick off from a tournament beaucause of someone else time out, when we were winning without timeout. It's realy unfair.
