I got moderated for calling out cheater

So i played this guy in chess that was using an engine, he didn't knew what ELO even was, i remade the game in *.com and he scored 97% with not even 1 innacuracy and had some crazy moves, he said he didn't knew any chess websites besides this one and played gm level against me. When i asked him about his rating he said he didn't had one.
I called him out for using an engine and he left.

I tried to report him but there isn't an option for cheating.

I followed into his next game where he played checkers, i followed his moves with an engine and suprise suprise he was doing the top moves every time. I called him out in chat again for using an engine and he stopped cheating and went from a 3 piece sacrifice into a 5 piece combo skill level to barely know what he was doing.

I stopped playing board games that can be cheated with engines overall, cuz there's no point, there's always a guy who's gonna cheat.

Today i logged in and i got a moderator warning for saying "even in this game you use an engine".

Can the report system be less obnoxious. I didn't insult i only tried to call out a cheater.

1) Stop stalking people.
2) There is a mechanism for reporting players. Use that. [It's the "Report this player" button on their profile page.]

BGA has neither the resources nor the expertise to ferret out cheaters using engines. Even the sites *dedicated* to chess aren't 100% effective at this. If you don't feel like you can trust people, then only play with people you know.

BGA has a very easy way to avoid moderation: no negativity ever. In any form. No, not even if you feel really aggrieved or think the person really deserves it. Save it for your report. Whether this policy encompasses far too much behavior that doesn't really cross the line is open for debate. But it is so simple to follow.

1) I didn't stalk, i literally just saw the next game to check if he was cheating.

I didn't insult or offended in any way by saying "you are cheating", stating facts shouldn't be negative by default, if calling out for cheating is considered "negative", then it should only be negative for the person cheating.

What do you think the connotation of "even in this game you use an engine" means? I personally think you didn't cross the line, but please don't try to be lawyerly and say "well, I didn't actually say the words 'you are cheating' so that's ok." That's like a parent saying "stop touching your brother" and the child responding "I'm not touching him. I'm touching my coat and my coat is touching him."

Believe me, at least once a week I want to give someone a piece of my mind about taking too long in a game. Stating a fact that they have exceeded the time on each of their previous 5 turns shouldn't subject me to moderation. But it might, so I don't do it. I just red thumb them and move on with my life.

As for reporting, choose the closest option that allows for a free-form response. If that fails, contact support.

It's unfortunate that people cheat (in general; I don't know the details of the person you're accusing). Even when no fame or fortune is involved, they just do it. I can't explain why they do it. I just try to steer clear of it.

This is kinda it. Since cheating is hard to check, you either deal with it, or goes to specialised site which will be better on it.

And it's true for many domains. If you want a t-shirt, you can goes to general store. if you want a t-shirt with X differents things, you either deal with what you got in that general shop, or you goes to a specialised shop.

I did state he was cheating on chat, i never said i didn't (I even said I did say it on my first reply to you). He just reported by chosing that message, but by the way this went i don't even think it mattered which message he would've chosen, since in my eyes non of the messages weren't even close to reportable. I still don't see how that can result in a negative or offensive moderation for pointing out a person performing an act that is considered wrong (against fair play).

But anways , yeah, I just moved on and learnt my lesson that i shouldn't even engage in chat overall unless it's to say very relevant things to the game playing and or not towards anyone, because anything i said can be considered as "negativity" and have the possibility to get you moderated or even banned for even saying factual or non banter things.

It is however an act of vigilantism. You get suspicious, you judge about it and you shame publicly all by yourself. Yes, it is a problem that BGA can't deal with cheaters. And maybe you're morally right to interfere with their next game. But when it gets reported (which btw could've been done by either player of the match you were observing), I don't think moderators have another choice than call you out for that. Since there is no official cheat-checking, there is no ground for your accusation which means on the surface it is just a plain insult and they can't check beyond surface.

I don't see how it's an insult, but I did shame him publicly in front of the other user I guess. You make a fair point and I can see where you're coming from.

Best just to red thumb the guy so you jist report him never play him again and move on
