Turn times in Catan

Post by CatRosa »

Hello, I've been playing Catan Beta and it seems to me (and asked other players), that the turns are too long.
My suggestion is for each player to have 2.5min.
It still gives plenty of time to think where to place the first 2 initial settlements (2.5min each), plus other rounds after that.

Please think about it :)

Thanks!

I agree about the turn times. I think a big thing that would help is if the "trading" counted solely against the "current player'. Right now, someone initiates a trade and then the other players have time taken away while they consider it. Only when ALL of the other players have responded does the time start ticking away from the current player. That just drags the game out since the current player can just keep making trade requests. Better would be if the current player can offer trades, but it's still their turn and only their clock is ticking down. If other players aren't interested in the trade, then the current player must decide if they want to keep waiting or offer a new trade or pass. Either way, the burden to manage time should be on the current player.

Changing the trading system clock would probably make it nearly impossible to trade in turn-based games.

Turn times for all games are based on averages.

I'm speaking in turns of turn-based Catan. It would expedite turns if the active player could propose multiple trades in a single go. Each player could respond to each proposal. This beats proposing your first trade, waiting on responses, failing, reformulating the next possible trade, and doing that 2 times more, for example.

I realize it could reveal additional information about what's in my hand, but it might be worth the sacrifice to shorten the wait between turns.

Trading HAS to count only against the current player. it's functionally a bug otherwise and a request for abuse.

But streamlining the trading system is also important.

Also, I put in a suggestion to this effect if you want to vote for it (or, sure, argue against it):
