aggressive timer use

Post by KeithLangley »

when posting a trade you put all other players on a timer. It's possible to spam this and run them out of time; to prevent this happening to you, you must hover over the mouse watching intensely for 75 minutes. Catan shouldn't really be a timed game at all, though I know it has to be for online play. But maybe a separate 1 minute timer per trade? Enough to weed out people who've disconnected, but not to make our eyes hurt from not blinking.

I've also suggested a secondary trade timer in a different thread. It should stop the main timer, since trading can sometimes take time. It should also not be sanctioned, so only the active player has to watch the clock during their current turn. Auto-decline if I don't have the requested resource should also be added. Unless using a sort of voice chat the normal table trade can't be recreated anyways. So I root for easy and comfortable.

Discuss changes on the forum but remember if you want to raise them with the developers use the Bugs/Suggestions feature (often worth linking back here to encourage up voting). Remember timers are game specific implementation of a site wide feature so what you are asking for might be very difficult to implement, and official BGA policy is to stick as closely as possible to the physical game so any suggestion that it should work differently online will probably be ignored.

Autodecline means that opponents can easily see which resources you have and which you don't, by suggesting a trade they have no intention to actually make.
