Me too. Looks like an excellent game and beautifully rendered by the developers but unfortunately feels in pretty poor taste to me.
Re: CRUSADERS: Thy Will Be Done
Isn't it based on a historical event? I don't really understand the "poor taste" point of view. It happened. We can't erase it. I can understand not wanting to play it. Everyone can make their own choice but I don't think it is "poor taste" to make a game based on an historical event as long as the history isn't changed.

Really? There is absolutely nothing in the history of mankind that trivializing it by turning it into a form of entertainment is off limits? Not a single thing? Let me guess: because it would be "educational"?

That's right. Done!BaronFraser wrote: ↑16 August 2022, 01:36Is it possible to get somebody to edit the Facebook post, too? That still cites the old publisher.

Not a single thing ... obviously not. But if this is already one of those, I think we are riding on the hype train of being overly politically correct.Meeplelowda wrote: ↑16 August 2022, 02:53Really? I want to understand what you mean when you use the word "overly." That implies that there is an acceptable level that would not qualify as "overly," and something more than that crosses the threshold into overly. But the tenor of the rest of what you wrote suggests that no acceptable level actually exists. If so, fine. Just asking to clarify what you intend to say.

Thanks for your question. I understand that my post would have easily been used by some people to start a flaming war or at least overheated discussion. I'll try to respond as good as I can, as English is not my native language.
There are several things that people used to think, which are not the case anymore. For example women being inferior to men, killing in the name of a certain belief being ok, ... Luckily that kind of thinking is now considered to be wrong by people (I know there are still people thinking like that, but that's another discussion - I think the general consensus is that that kind of thinking is wrong). That's what I mean with a political correct way of thinking.
However, erasing or not allowing everything that even reminds of those situations is, in some cases, overly political correct. There's always a historical context as well, and it's important to keep that in mind. For me that is the case with this game. Were the crusades ok? No, they weren't. But are they part of our history? Yes definitely. So it all comes down to the setting in which this takes place. Does the game praise violence used against innocent people and take it as it's major selling point. That would definitely not be ok. But that is not the case here. So I see no issue with the game.
Otherwise we would have to ban every single game about WWI or WWII. Is Lost Ruins of Arnak ok, or are there actually hints in the game about the suppression of the Maya's? I know the latter sounds extreme, but that's part of my point: I know nowadays politcal correctness have shifted to extremes sometimes that there are actually people just looking for even a small hint of discrimination, just for the sake of it. I condemn every form of discrimination. But I don't support witch hunts against everything that could, from a very far distance, maybe have a hint of it if you keep looking, either.

Re: CRUSADERS: Thy Will Be Done
Thanks for the explanation. My question you responded to, however, was to someone who claimed that nothing historically accurate could ever be in bad taste. I was not expressing an opinion about whether this game crosses a line. I am expressing an opinion that "bad taste" is meaningless if the only criterion is whether it actually happened. If the person who wrote that really means what they said, praising "violence used against innocent people" and taking it as a major selling point would not be in bad taste as long as it was historically accurate.T72on1 wrote: ↑16 August 2022, 09:09 Thanks for your question.
