I think - someone else can confirm, that the game ends *IMMEDIATELY* the counter goes across the 12/1 line into the new year -clarification sheet says so on BGG ("If marker passes from 12 to 1 move year marker, players pick up cards. If marker on year 3 game ends immediately.") The Full Rules says this also on the web pdf of the English rules.

And as your opponent played the boots on his turn, this triggers the clause and the game ends, rather then when the marker increments at end of turn.

Sorry, but unless there's a decrepancy between different language's rulesets, then looks like your assumption about getting another turn no matter what is incorrect

I think Brakus is right. There was such problem at BGG: http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/912853/temporal-boots. Rules say that game ends immediately but i think they forgot about such situation. Canceling other players last turn (one of the most important turns in many games!) would be too much for free card, and it should be mentioned on card or in rules (because it's too odd situation).
