Bad Sportsmanship

Post by CREED Aventus »

The following needs to be brought to Board Game Arena Admin Team's attention:

A player created a Private Group named the Chosen Few and has invited a significant number of Spades players to join this group.

This has had a detrimental impact on the Spades SIMPLE GAME Mode.

Affirmed by the following player: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 90&t=27019
"Why are people playing online if they’re worried about people cheaters? Find three friends and play the game in person. I am in chosen few and it’s a nice group, but you are correct that there are some people that are allowed to not play so fair. Chosen few does not promote cheating or deny cheating, it does consume a lot of games to play, and new players on this site end up not having the ability to find players to play because of it. I have noticed there are fewer and fewer spades games since chosen few was created. That was never the intent of chosen few, but it does seem like it was a result."

Why is an individual allowed to dominate a game? This kind of behavior is bad sportsmanship.

The group is obviously offering something that a lot of people want, more than they want to offer easy access to games to new players on the site, and that is their choice, just as it is my choice to sometimes create a game that is restricted to my friendship group.

I wouldn't say either is bad sportsmanship.

Then there is no point to this site if individuals can create Private Groups and restricted new players from playing certain games.

It is not their responsibility or obligation to use the site the way you want it to be used. Just as GeraldineMerida occasionally restricts games to people on their friends list, someone could choose to always play with people on their friends list (or according to any other criterion they see fit).

In that case, lets all start creating Private Groups and isolate the minority who want to play the less popular games.

I'm sorry they didn't invite you. I didn't get an invite either. Good luck to you.

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they don't get the point. Three exclamation points? Very emphatic.

Neither this site nor anyone on it "owes" you anything. If you cannot find matches for the game you like in the mode you like that is unfortunate, but everyone is free to play with who they want when they want in whatever mode they want. That's what this site is for. You're basically complaining about playground politics. This has nothing to do with sportsmanship.

Hardly surprising that so many players move onto to other things.
