What happened to Recommended Number of Players?

Post by aggiefanatic95 »

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, couldn't find it from searching the forums.

I am not seeing the recommended number of players when creating new tables on most games. I may be misremembering but it seemed to be on most games a couple of months ago, but now it seems few and far between. This has forced me to open bgg on a new tab to check the best number of players (first world problem, I know). It would be awesome to have all games have a similar system for recommend number of players as bgg has so that we can save some time looking it up elsewhere.

Yeah, I noticed this. Not sure where it's gone.

Yeah it look like it got removed for two third of the games.
But I don't think it was a good metric for most games, and it's maybe the reason it was removed.

I like taking 'Secret moon' as an example which for me is far better at 8 players, but since it can be played from 5 to 8, and it's hard to get 8 players, I think the system take the average number of players... Which lead to 7.

One solution I see would be to pull the community, but the question is what would you expect and what you would ask?

In games like Azul which is a family friendly game, you would have people which like playing strategic and against the other player, which will prefer 2 players, and those which like easy games which would prefer 4.
What would you do with that kind of game?

Arena settings which change every season look a good metric to see how many games would have the problem. And remember in arena, you will only find people with 20+ games. This sentence should be more adressed to people with a few games, and that can be completely different.

Not to mention games where it's better at 5 players, but you play 2 players because the game isn't enough popular / you don't want to wait.
