Penalty Points

Hi there

Everyday when I enter the site, I get a note to say I haven't been able to finish a game. Yesterday there was one but someone had left the game and I played for a little bit and quit but it said I wouldn't get penalty points.

Now on opening BGA it tells me about that and so I click got it and it says I left a game today and another -20 penalty points and I haven't even attempted to even get into a game yet.

How can I get someone to look into this because I can't get ahead and just keep getting penalty points and I'm playing 100s to try and get my score up and then to lose them for nothing doesn't seem fair. Plus a pay a premium. If an administrator is on here could you please look into it please or I might have to find another site. I don't know where else to talk to an administrator. Could someone please let me know how to.

Hi Yvie,

I'm sorry you are having trouble with penalties from running out of time in games. It looks like most of your early games were real-time games where it is not too hard to run out of time.

Some of your recent penalties are in turn-based games where you have about 1 day to make each move. It sounds like you may not have been aware that you were in these games. I can see three of them right now at: https://boardgamearena.com/gameinprogre ... 113391&all

It looks like you have just made some moves there, so maybe you have figured it out now. The idea is that your clock starts with a certain amount (3 days for these games) and every time you make a move, 1 day is added to your time. If you make your moves quickly enough, your time will build up, but never exceed the initial time. On the other hand, if you often take longer than a day to make your moves, eventually you will run out of time and someone may skip your turn. I hope this is helpful and you are able to start avoiding penalties.

Hmm, right after my last post, I saw another abandoned game show up in your history, but it was different from the ones in progress I had been looking at before. I guess it's possible that the game ended between the time I looked at your penalties and then looked at your games in progress, but maybe there really is a bug where you have games in progress that are not showing up in your list. That would be a very worrisome bug, indeed!

Edit: It looks like someone kicked you out of the game many hours ago, but the last player quit the game while I was writing the first post. It looks like games no longer show up as in progress for you once you have left them, but the penalties do not show up until the last player leaves the game.
