Maybe first explain what you're using? Android or iOS?

My guess is iOS, iPad of sorts, kinda explains any form of problem.

On some platforms, you have to do that twice.

I press space then enter to send a chat message on mobile (Android). It works without space after a "!" but not after letters, I never found the explanation

Odd, on my device (Android) 'enter' just works, regardless of what characters precede it.
