Why does the system assign me opponents in arena mode, for which I won't get any arena points if I win? How does such a game benefit me?

ikr. Presumably you're a high rank player and it's shoving you with bronze? Go into your advanced settings on the wheel icon and set it to never play with -2. Then if you win you will always get some points - however if you're low down the rankings it will stop you meeting elites/diamonds so you won't get as many points if you win.

This problem will even itself out in a week or 2, 3. By then there are hundreds of Elite players. A few weeks later, thousand(s).
