Reputation hit by bad connection

Post by ChiefWhiteHalfoat »

Recently I was traveling and, unknowingly, was on a bad/slow internet connection. This caused me to get kicked out of some games, and I lost much reputation.

Is there any way for bad connection to be detected and for the player with the bad connection to be removed without losing reputation? I'm assuming that once lost, it can't be regained again.

If "it" is referring to reputation, it absolutely can be regained. Every game you play without incident restores a bit of your reputation. There is even a thread within the past month in the Discussions sub-forum specifically about quick games to play to restore reputation.

And don't forget you can use a holiday joker to avoid problems like that when you travel.

Leaving a game annoy all others players on the game. They wanted to play a game, and because of you, they can't.

If it happen in some rare cases, it's fine it can happen. The reputation system doesn't do anything above 70.

If now, that happen more than 1 time out of 20, your reputation will goes down.

So if you are in that case, try to resolve your problem somehow. It can be by playing turn based instead of real time.

I could watch a player in a real time game today going online and offline for a while. Then the countdown of throwing out started. I was sad for that person, because it happens to most of us, I guess, that connection could fail suddenly.
But for that countdown someone of the other players did have to click on "throw out" I thought?
The countdown started right after the first minus seconds. Sadly I think, s.o. clickt to dismiss, because the delayed person was going to win.

But the person still won

You were traveling and you knew that your connection is slow/bad but you kept trying real time game instead of turn-based.

Your penalty should be doubled, tripled... game by game while you have forced real time game with bad connection.

Peace on you!

Now that I check which games he is playing, that feel unfair.
I don't know those but it look like those games are 1 hour long, sometimes 4 hours long.

Playing for 4 hours to gain +1 reputation look really unfair compared to someone which would play <10min games to win +24 reputation during the same amount of time.

How is it "unfair"? Everyone is allowed to play shorter games if they want.

Let's said during every 40 hour, your connexion stop working randomly during one hour.
When this happen, you lose 20 reputation.
Then, if you play 10min game, you will gain back in average 240 reputation.
If you play 4 hours game, you will gain back in average 10 reputation.

In the contrary, someone which have a connexion which stop randomly every 4 hours:
If he plays 10 min game, he will gain back in average 24 reputation.
If he plays 4 hours game, he will gain back in average 1 reputation.

So if these two players play their favorite game, the one which have a connexion which work 10 times better than the other one will lose reputation while that other one will stay high.

So what mesure the reputation?
You could argue that it's the ability to finish a game until the end, and on that part, it does his job.

But it's so weird to said. "If your connexion is bad, just play shorter games". You can said that leaving a short game is less annoying than leaving a long game, but it doesn't seem linked.

And I lost myself while writing this :P
