Option To Hide Scores On Scren

Post by Will_BeGaming »

I sent this in via email to the site over half a year ago, twice, never got a response.
Why can't we have an option to hide the scores in the upper right hand corner?

One of the greatest sources of enjoyment in score based games is not knowing who won till the v-e-r-y end.
It allows people who may be behind to still enjoy the game, perhaps play on instead of giving up, and it allows a close game
to be even more exciting when the final score is revealed at game's end.
Would it be so hard to put an on/off feature??
We don't go to the movies and see a side screen with all the main plot points and the ending advertised to the story, do we?

Also: When I see the rankings for various games, why is everyone's score listed except the leader?
That seems foolish.

One last thing: Does anyone else have an issue with voice chat in the lobby being shut down when you start the game and then being shut down again when you return to lobby?
If so, this needs to be addressed obviously.
Thanx

That's because email is not the appropriate method of presenting suggestions. These forums* and the bug reporting system (with the subcategory of improvements) are.

BGA strives to be as close to the physical game as possible. If the physical game has a scoreboard, the BGA implementation does also.
Games tend to fall into two categories: ones where the score can be determined by looking at the game's current state, and ones where non-trackable actions affect the score. In the latter case, in a physical game, the score must be displayed to keep track of the effects of the non-trackable actions. In the former case displaying the score really only alleviates the tedium of counting points that are on display.

-----------
*Actually, these forums are a place to discuss proposed changes, and get feedback to see if it is a viable option that people want. The suggestion should still go into the bug tracking system, often with a link to the bug posted in these forums to encourage people to vote for it.

"That's because email is not the appropriate method of presenting suggestions."
Utterly inane response. If I'd only replied to my customers, over the 20+ years I ran a business, in only the way I preferred, I'd have lost many customers.
Kind of like this one who would have otherwise let his annual subscription continue.

"If the physical game has a scoreboard, the BGA implementation does also. "
Again, utterly tone deaf and bull.
We've played games on here that I have brought to the table and no, they didn't all have a visible score totalling system in place that was equivalent to your score keeper!
Also, WHY would BGA not add a feature that is OPTIONAL for the user and could improve the enjoyment of ther users who avail themselves of it???
If I and every person I play with thought this would be a great feature, surely we're not alone.
But BGA team doesn't care.
Sheer simple bloodymindedness: "We do what we do because it's how WE want it."

I posted about how byzantine starting a solo game is in December and note the number of views and responses.

Also note that BGA hasn't addressed the issues with the chat system which I guess I should be glad has only this bug as the last time we tried it in 2021, it utterly failed to work..

Could you provide specific game examples for this statement? Also, please do not assign BGA items to me. It is not my score keeper.

Already answered. If the physical copy has a board, the BGA implementation does as well. If you want to change your physical copy for your own use that is fine, but BGA does not have the right to change the publisher's work.

Sheer simple copyright law. BGA does not own the rights to the games. They have licenses to implement the game as close to the physical game as possible.

I can give an example -
I am currently playing wingspan, where the score is made up of various different objectives (birds, eggs, tucked cards and cached food) as well as a end game bonus. The score is always open to everyone I can count the eggs and the points everyone has and work it out. But I don't WANT TO. Not I don't want to make the effort, do I don't want to know all the time.
If it is a super competitive game, and I am trying to squeeze every last point past my rival - then I will calculate the scores myself (or I guess BGA could do it for me), but seeing it constantly ruins some of the tension, and is disheartening if I am losing (or winning) by a large margin.

Then take a post-it note and paste it on your screen over the scores.

CLASSIC

If that doesn't work tip-ex or permanent marker? If still no good then their only option will clearly be to take a knife to it and cut out the offending area of screen. I mean WCGW?

Catan and Kingdomino are two other examples. Aren't there many games like this, where the BGA implementation has an explicit scoreboard visible throughout the game, but the physical game does not?

Is this mocking tone really necessary?

Personally I like having BGA show me the running scores during the game, but the OP makes a reasonable point. No reason to be dismissive when you comment on it.

Feels like an appropriate response to someone accusing the site of being bloody minded and unreasonable with shouty caps etc. If you read it as mocking rather than a joke that's up to you. Is your questioning it necessary either? Are you a forum mod?

I can understand this sentiment. The solution should probably be handled like Kingdom Builder then, giving an option at table creation. It should probably also be on a per-game basis, not a site-wide change.
