Abandoning a 2 player game, a clean victory for the other player

It pretty much says it in the title.

Some games for more than 2 players obviously cannot have a clear outcome if one player abandons the game. However, that does not need to be the case with 2 player games. While the result of a, say, chess game may in many cases be clear for some 40 years before the actual checkmate, it may be frustrating to the winning player to play the more or less unsurprising endgame phase only to see that the opponent abandons the game a few moves (or even one move) before being mated.

This is the case not only for chess, but any 2 player game. There is no reason to not make an abandoned game a clean victory for the other player, including a full ELO recalculation.

this already exists for 2p. It's called conceding the game. Look in the options menu at top right during a game.

Abandon = mutual agreed
concede = you choose to quit they win full ELO
expel player after timeout = % ELO based on % played as YOU are the person expelling. Otherwise it is too open to abuse.

System isn't perfect but BGA presumably feel it's the best balance. I kind of agree tbh with the exception of the crazy arena auto-start not notifying players then one expels the other and gets full points. That is abuse of the system and needs fixing ASAP.

Sorry, expelling was the word I was after. And yes, if a player loses because of overtime and subsequent expelling, it should make a clean victory for the other.

The reason there are rules around the proper way of conceding, and expelling/player leaving is to avoid ELO fraud. Otherwise some players would create and play dummy accounts and just make them leave tables constantly to boost their ELO.
