What is a penalty?

Hello! We had a little fight with this player *, maybe i was too rude to him but i am trying to understand the punishment and rules system. He has 4 penalties lasting 60 days, i wonder what is it for? At first i thought its from reporting, but reporting clearly sais "report" and a reason for it. Then i thought its from leaving, but stone age game wasnt left, ended normally. How can one recieve a 60 "penalty" that shows on his account?

When you use up all your thinking time in a game but your opponents do not kick you out of the game then you can finish the game normally and your karma will not be affected.

Nevertheless your profile will then show for the next 60 days a "time penalty" because you did not manage to play within your time limit. Those penalties are no problem at all and they will happen to most players.

If I play a leasurly game with a friend we might take an unplanned break and one or both of the players might overshoot his time. Since it is a friendly game both players are fine and will continue and end the game. You see: a time penalty does not need to be a problem.

If you get a time penalty and one of your opponents kicks you out of the game then you additionally get a karma reduction. Same if you just abandon a game or if you get moderated. In all these cases you lose karma. These penalties are more serious, but by playing and finishing some games you can regain karma.

Ah i see! I didnt realize that clock icon means that he ran out of time during the game. I thought the icon was connected to 60 days sentence.
