Would a Multiplayer Thermopyles be possible?

So, reading on the Board Game Geek website and the rules, and I noticed how it could be played by more than one player. Now... is there a reason why the game is only solitaire? Would it be possible for some modification to the game that'd allow for multiple players? ... Did anyone bring this up before?
