How bad will it hurt me to quit a game?

Post by kedge05 »

I’m in a 5-player turn-based Ticket to Ride game. This was the first multi-player TTR game I joined and I had NO ideas it would take a month to get to 40% game played.

I have proposed to abandon with nobody getting docked, and left a message on the table that it was simply not a great choice for turn-based and we may not be done by Christmas. They denied the proposal. 🙄

I just proposed abandon game again, pending their answers but also left a message to please agree to abandon the game and I’d be quitting anyway if they don’t.

How bad will this dock my karma/rep/etc? Thanks!

Play the game out.

Lesson learned.

It's a -10 karma penalty, ELO corresponding to a lost game, plus possible red thumbs from the other players.

If it's turn based, it's very likely the other players will not see the chat messages, unless they're logged in at the very moment you post the message. Asynchronous chat doesn't seem to work very well. Try proposing to abandon a few more times, hoping they realize the problem. If it still doesn't work, just bite the bullet, make one move per day (or per 5 days at worst), and otherwise forget that game.

Oh thank you - I didn’t know that about the chat. I usually notice new messages on turn-based games, but they’re normally 2 players and it isn’t 3-ish days in between plays…

Guess I’ll hope to finish by Christmas then and have this game go on forever in the background.
