Well I know many sports where competition and fair play live very well together (even such hard sports as rugby). Not all moves are allowed, and bad ones are generaly severely punished.

Competing does not mean transforming the arena in a slaughterplace (at least I hope nobody wants it) but challenging eachother's skills. Taking advantage of a time problem means you have few.
Try asking your opponents for a few extra minutes in which to score in rugby when the half is over!

You need not necessarily restrict yourself to training mode, but if you think Arena players will mostly prioritise conviviality over efficient play and competition, I think you have very much misunderstood how it works.
I do not confuse BGA with the olympics either
