turn based: Show me the scoring-phase instead of just telling me who won!

Post by paulsche »

I play a lot of turn-based games with a "scoring-phase" in the end. (e.g. Kingdom Builder, Azul, Carcassonne...)

When I am the last player, the ending is great: I see the scoring-phase "live" and it is exciting to watch who will will, to follow the race for points.

But when I am NOT the last player, it is a dissapointing experience. I get a notification that a game has ended, and I see immediately who has won. All the excitement of watching the animated scoring-phase is GONE. With a lot of clicks I could probably replay it, but since I already know who won, there is not really a point.

Am I the only one who sees that as a problem? It's actually my main-issue with BGA! I feel like the endings of many games are "stolen" from me.

When you get the notification that the game has ended and click on it, there is a button to directly review the last turn (which is available for 24 hours).

Language is a source of misunderstanding. (Antoine de Saint-Exupery: The Little Prince) But it is also the source of understanding - it all depends on how you use it. :-)

For every turn, I always would like to see the replay of the last turn when I enter in a turn based table.

You can click on the notification in the game log to see the replay from that point on

Yes, but it could be automaticaly, in my opinion. Maybe an option you could choose the default in preferences.

No it could not. There are no uniformity in the code for "end of game scoring" so there are no way to detect if a given portion of code/sequence of notifs corresponds to that specific part of the game. So that would mean introducing a new feature and check the code of all existing 500 games to see how to apply this feature.

How about just an autoreplay from your last turn to the end?

That would make sense, but the replay feature of bga dont work well with jumping to specific point in the game because only the starting status is archived along with the notifications. I agree there is room for improvement here.

Yes, but then I already know who has won! Because the same page that has the link also tells me the ranking.

To clarify:

This is the notification. There is only one link in it:

This is the page it leads to. I could replay the last turn, but it's pointless because I already know who has won. So there is no more excitement.

The images don't seem to work. I added Links next to the broken images.
