Practical Strategy Tips for Newcommers

I agree with Magnus that tips can be very useful to a new player who doesn't have the knowledge of the tactics and strategy yet. As they play and learn and gain experience, then they are in a better place to engage in a conversation on tactics, but it does take a decent amount of games to get there!
I feel that most tips and general strategies have their exceptions and I probably have broken them all (sometimes it worked out and sometimes it didn't ). Sometimes you have to "break the rules", play with your "gut feeling" and do the unexpected to keep your opponent guessing (especially the very experienced ones). I really enjoy the conversations after a game that offered interesting strategy and tactical choices and trying to understand why players do what they do!

A scene from the movie Troy comes to mind:

Achilles is training Patroclus in swordfighting, using wooden swords, while Odysseus is visiting.

The fight goes on in foreground, with the talk is happening as a backdrop.

Achilles suprises his sparring opponent by switching the sword from hand.
To which Patroclus complains that he has specifically been told in training never to do that precisely.

Achilles masterfully replies that "Once he knows what he's doing... he won't be following anyone's advise, not even one of a great warrior as himself".

Not sure how many beginners are willing to go through this entire thread, reading each and every Post.

Maybe you could edit top post...putting in some of the more relevant tips that you find in this thread?
Beginners who enter this threat are more likely going to read the First post opposed to reading all posts in this thread.

Some things I had to learn the Hard way:
Range has no effect on a Tanks Firepower....no need to come in close.
Leave yourself a retreat path. Better having cover (terrain) hex behind a unit oppose to clear terrain.
Order of Battle is Key. Planning multiple units fire pattern.
Not having to engage every enemy unit that reaches your field of fire, especially if you're left with only one operation card.
Not every unit at your disposal is meant for attack. If you know where the Battle is going to be, defend. If you're dictating where the Battle will take place, Assault.

That's a good idea.
Will do so, but once the thread has matured.

Artillery is really hard to kill, really.

Same holds tru for Snipers. It's usually not a good Idea devoting all your time targeting snipers.
Snipers should focus on the dreaded Artillery.

When playing a text card that gives you bonus firepower (one extra die), make sure you Activate Sniper...It's Great!
