The phrase I like least at the end of a battle is "gg".

Players use "good game" regardless of how the battle has gone, without considering their opponents experience.

If a player has had great cards and great die rolls and wins comprehensively they say "gg" while there opponent may have had no really usable cards and wretchedly poor dice rolls.

One player may have extremely good luck while the other has had extremely poor luck.
That's "not a good game" in my world.

That's the M44 game system it can and often is harsh, cruel and unfair.

You'll rarely find me writing "gg" and you'll often find me writing "no it wasn't a gg."

Don't get me wrong I enjoy the M44 system, but it is rarely a good game for both players especially when one player hasn't been able to play well.

Please find something better to respond with at the end of a battle.

FWIW I expect to be shouted down and told how wrong I am.
It that's what you are going to write/post please don't bother.

When it's a very lopsided game I'll say good game just because I don't know that what else to say!
I agree that there are games where it doesn't really matter what one does or how well one plays, the other player will win regardless.
However, I've said good game in those instances knowing that the other player played well, didn't appear to make any (or few) mistakes, it's just that the game decided who would win.... It didn't take away the fact that they played well just because of a lopsided game. Sometimes players may have played well, maybe even outplayed the other, it's just dice and cards may have been too much to overcome.
Of course we all have games where we didn't play well and we know it. But I don't take it as condescending if I get a gg, nor do I mean it in a condescending way if I say gg...I just take it as a statement of good sportsmanship, knowing that we all have our good games and bad, that what happened could happen to anyone and all we can do is try to learn from the game we just played, whether we came out on the winning side or not.
So, if and when we have the opportunity to play I will probably automatically say gg, but I don't mean anything by it other than "Thanks for playing, and I hope you learn from the game, apply those lessons and play to the best of your ability next time."

Hopefully, this isn't shouting you down Just an insight into what I mean by "good game.".

This has been talked about before on many threads and seems to bother players from outside the U.S. I guess it's like how us Americans greet each other with "How's it going" we are not really concerned with how you actually feel but it's a polite way of acknowledging the other person and it seems our use of "Good Game" means we are saying it was an enjoyable experience for both players when what we are actually saying is respect and thank you for participating.
This is taught to us at a young age so please take it as a compliment of good sportsmanship, that being said I will continue to use GG at the end whether I win or lose and if others want to say something else that is their prerogative.

Yet 99.9% of players are accustomed to doing so. Think Of it as a Salute. The phrase I like least in a battle is: "Bad Dice."

That's "not a good game"in my world.

And it never will be (at least in your world). Those are the Best Games!!! Winning a Game despite having poor luck, is a great game.

More than an american thing, it is simple online sportmanship.

I always open with "Gl & Hf".
And close with the classical "GG".

In fact, I used to give a green thumbs up to all opponents I encounter.
But I started to only give it to those players who at least have some manners.
I'm not saying a red thumb, of course! But a green thumb has to be a response to players who at least interact.

I DO however recogize when my opponent has really bad cards or dice, and usually write something to acknowledge this fact.

I often give an honest answer to How's it going" , perhaps "not so well" or "could be better" to see if the other person is listening.

It took years to retrain my doctor from saying "How are you?" at the start of a consultation to "How can I help you?" as I would always reply to the former "Clearly not well as this isn't an expensive social visit!"

This is taught to us at a young age so please take it as a compliment of good sportsmanship, that being said I will continue to use GG at the end whether I win or lose and if others want to say something else that is their prerogative.

I acknowledge it's you right to offer it, and it may be meant to be a sign of good sportmanship but that's not always how it comes across.

We're from a different age, my friend...

GG - is - as has been mentioned, an established salute among e-sport gamers. Much like the handshake at the end of a rugby game (ps: Insert your collision sport of choice here) it has nothing to do with the number of concussions you've endured.

Personally I always say: "Good luck" - because if my opponent has good luck, then my eventual victory is all the sweeter...

PS: oh oh - and be careful when asking "how's it going" to a Dane! We take the question literally, and if we're of the wordy kind (like me) we'll give you our present life-situation...
