School sports give all the players Medals...all you have to do is show up...playing for the fun of it. Fun being in the position of its rival, Competitive opponent's.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with competitiveness, I sincerely do not get any of the complaints.

Furthermore... there are some other websites to play boardgames on.
I became premium in BGA exclusively for the Arena feature. I find it revolutionary applied to boardgames.

Competitiveness is the life-spark that keeps things interesting.

Physically
If you are willing to travel you could visit the Chattanooga Open, Dutch Open, French Open, Belgian Open (two day tournaments) And there are also one day tournaments, but the ones I know of are in Western Europe which I think would be a stretch for a US citizen.
Those all use point systems where you want to squeeze the last drop out of the game so you can outclass your competitors. Some tournaments have been decided on 0,1 point.

Full right Jeronimo, and we are doing a long way to join these Events where it's always fun to come and fight with in any case some fantastic memories of the players and chat !! Memoir'44 community is a fabulous one also IRL !!

I played in a live tournament hosted by Richard Borg at GenCon in Indianapolis 4-5 years ago. It was great. Memoir 44 wasn't there in 2021, but maybe in 2023!

The Bewolf is a real life tournament (you have to make an appointment with your opponent and one of you needs to load the scenario at game start. The league has been real-time, but that was the only option with Memoir’44 online. The format lends itself for turn-based play. (But he point system will be more to your liking)


Speaking for myself, the last few weeks have been too busy to play real time. Once I have more free time I will play more real-time Memoir’44. But with the time difference with the US we will probably not be online at the same time.

Not speaking for myself: there are still lots of players who haven’t migrated yet from the online to BGA (some haven’t even gotten the news that the online version will end) if everybody will finally migrate even more players will be available. That might increase the chance of real time games (I certainly hope so )

You will find this in elementary schools mostly. I guess they want to catch them early...giving kids the chance to experience the fun of it, first.

Argh! I had no idea a player could lose base points while engaging in Arena play (I have to wonder why). I thought Arena was just playing for Top spot in the Area.

As it is now, who would you admire most: Top ranking player in Arena or top-ranking player in regular? Pretty much the same.
Now let's switch it up - Arena being one game and regular being two, who would you admire most?

There is absolutely no difference between Arena and normal game mode.

When playing Arena, they do not display the combatant's ELO score, how come?


Training game= no points
Basic game= points
Arena= Glory to the Victor!

That's why nobody plays Real time basic game mode. Arena should be a side show, and that is all.
Arena will be played whether ELO points are involved or not...you don't (shouldn't have) need to include them.

I think you are missing a very crucial aspect of Arena : it reset every few month.
Before Arena, a lot of games suffered from this problem : some player were sitting in the "top 10 ELO" without playing anymore, making it almost impossible to reach these spots. And even if these players still continue to play, they could very well just decide to ignore some players against whom they are always playing since you can manually accept/reject any table proposal.
So Arena was created mainly for that : create a competitive UP-TO-DATE place, where the players need to compete regurlarly to actually gain this "top 10 in Arena" spots.
