New lobby feature: save your preferred settings

Post by sourisdudesert »

Dear players,

As you know, the release of the future BGA lobby is a progressive process: we are fixing stuff and adding new functionalities, release after release.

We are proud to introduce today a nice feature: save your preferred settings

Image

For a given game, using the "+" icon on top right of your settings, you are now able to save a given configuration by giving it a name.

Examples:
  • "Options for turn-based"
  • "For casual play"
  • "My personal favorite"
This way, you can later restore them using the corresponding menu.

Free members can save up to 1 configuration for each game, while Premium members can save many.

We hope that you will find this new feature useful :)

Can you make the UI with less empty space between components? Using it is a horrible experience as you have to scroll around the page all the time.

This is nice!

Can you please make it available in the play now game setup too?

It seems a bit buggy around number of players and game speed. Right now, those aren't updated to saved version when selecting a pre-saved setting (for table restriction I haven't checked yet, I would wish those were visible/settable on the main interface).

edit: ok it seems like actually the time-setting is updated but when you change it and want to save it to the preset version, the change isn't recognized and as such it can't be saved.

You can’t play multi games in real time. Never was this available.

I tested it further and realized that not only number of players but also player restriction is unfortunately not recovered when loading a saved setting.

1. On Preset A I saved without any restrictions in place, basic settings, 2 players.
2. Then I changed some settings and also made some restriction and changed into 4 players. Then I saved it into Preset B.
3. I play a game with these settings I have just saved into B.
4. After the game I go back to Game-Page and the newly setup table has still correctly settings of preset B, 4 players, my restrictions in place.
5. Now I choose preset A
. [*] restrictions go back to unrestricted which I expected because I haven't set any restrictions before saving preset A
. [*] Players number is still at 4 --> this shouldn't be. I change it into 2p.
6. Without playing a game I go back to selecting preset B.
. [*] the game is still unrestricted --> But it should have the restrictions that I have chosen when I saved into preset B!
. [*] Players number is 2 --> but it should be 4

I confirm that this feature is not intended to save anything above the "settings" line. As the UX suggest, everything below the line is saved while everything above is not.

Could you consider adding that feature? Because number of players, game-speed and table-restrictions is a quite relevant part of a table-setup.

As a first step it would be great to prevent the choosing of a preset delete a previously set number of players, game speed and restriction. So that we can at least keep what we have set there before. Right now it removes those which is quite bothersome.
In detail: If I set player number to 4, set a game speed and then place some restrictrictions (or already have all of that to my liking without doing anything, because my previous game had them already) and I then choose another settings-preset, what happens is: player number is set to 2, game speed is set to normal, all restrictions are removed.

If you don't want (or can) put those 3 things into the preset, then please at least leave them untouched and don't reset them. With this resetting, the whole preset-thing is unusable for me as it produces more additional things to set than it saves. I'd rather change some of the game-specific settings manually than select a preset + set player number + set game speed + set restrictions again. But it would be a great tool, if the preset would contain all of those things.
