Getting punished for leaving?

Post by inselll »

It is absurd that I am punished for leaving a game in which a fellow player obviously does not know the rules and/or just plays anything.

For these cases there should be a review process, gladly also by experienced players, who recognize the abandonment as legitimate.
Specifically, it was a game of "Skat" in which I experienced a move that I have never seen in 40 years of playing practice, from a non-active player.
Even worse when the following trick revealed the player's hand and increased the absurdity.

Regards.

Welcome to the real world. People are learning new games, making misclicks, and/or are just generally weird.

If you are willing to pay 199 Euro for BGA, maybe there is a possibiiity for reviews of individual games.

Leaving a game force other players to not play the game anymore, give you -10/-20 karma and make you lose some elo.
Proposing to abandon a game, if it's accepted ; make everyone agree on not playing the game anymore, and make you lose nothing.

edit: Hum, I believe it's hard for others to see that a vote to abandon is going on in turn based. If you use chat, and make everyone play at least once, they should see your request.

How would the system determine that you left because the other player wasn't very good? didn't know what they were doing? That would seem hard to program.

Or you could just never punish a person for quitting a game, which brings its own problems.

If you don't want to play with players who make novice mistakes or are careless, why not just restrict your games to average players and above? Much simpler than creating a review panel to assess justification for quitting games.

As GeraldineMerida wrote, you do have to power to avoid them. Using Manual game selection, create a table then click "Restrict Table Access" to the right of the "Players at this table" label, uncheck "Beginners," then click "OK." This preference should be saved when creating tables for this game in the future.

How do I start a vote for abandon?
My friend and I couldn't find how, and the FAQ doesn't say, and in the end my friend quit and ate the karma penalty.

In the hamburger menu at the top right you should see an option to proposing to abandon the game

A future case of "i tried Skat a while ago, but was paired with unwelcoming veterans and never tried it again"
