How to turn off Friend online/offline chat notifications

Is there a way I can stop getting Friend online/offline chat notifications? They show up in my Blood Rage games chat box and it can flood it such that the actual game chat is drowned out.

Hopefully Im just missing some simple on/off switch...

You cannot. There is a very highly upvoted issue with 400+ votes but it is still impossible.

Online privacy has never been a high priority since I've been using the site. I know your complaint is that the notifications are annoying, but from those friends' perspective, they may want the option of you not knowing when they are coming and going and would love to be able to prevent you from seeing that. Win-win.
