How exactly do I start a solo game from the Play Now screen? When I click on the Play Now button it immediately starts searching for other players.

Go to "Play now", then change from "Automatic" to "Manual" on the top of the page. When you create the table, first switch from "normal mode" to "training mode". Then reduce the player number to 1.

Launching solo games is working fine for me today
