player behavior

I've never posted here before.
I don't understand why people join my live action SLOW games, and then complain bitterly that they are bored and we're playing too slow.
They insult me and then they quit and ruin the game.
Is that okay?
Because I was afraid to report it as poor behavior, once I saw a notice that if I report, and it isn't considered rude- that I would be punished.

I have a 6 minute max limit, and tonight I got down to 3:55 when I was having trouble. [The next 4 turns would have been very fast.]
The 3rd player had a similar long turn.
It also happened another day. But that person was at least trying to be polite, and we finished the game.

If people get so upset when a turn takes 2 minutes, I wish they would not join my slow game in the first place.
Maybe the problem is that they are using the automated game selection, and they don't realize they are going to get into a slow game?
Couldn't they set their selection parameters to better meet their needs?

Unfortunately, people will join games without looking at the table setup. This is a result of the computer age. The default selection for the automated lobby is for any speed game, and most people don't change the defaults.

However, that being said, the FAQ (What is absolutely forbidden) and terms of service both point out that insulting another user is cause for moderation: feel free to report it.

Additionally, the FAQ (A player is not playing, what can I do) does point out that as long as a clock is positive, the player has all of that time to make a move.

Unfortunately, people also read the FAQ about as often as they read the table setup screen and adjust default behavior...


Short answer: You have done nothing wrong (based on your testimony), and if they insult you it is fine to report them.

Thanks. Maybe I can remove experts from my game invites.
I've never had someone with over 300 points in wingspan join one of my games.
Gee, they could start their own game instead of joining mine! Surely they have a subscription.

And, now that I've had some more time to think about it, you might try these actions when it happens again:

Politely point out that your clock is still positive, and the FAQ indicates you have time to think. Include the direct link to the FAQ, https://boardgamearena.com/faq?anchor=f ... notplaying

Politely suggest to them that they may want to change their game preferences to never play slow games. I think the current method is from the Play Now screen to click on the gear icon when in automatic mode.

Most players who are going to be rude will take this as an opportunity to insult you more, giving more evidence for the moderation report....

Also realize that it will happen again, and again, and again.... Try not to get too upset over it.

It's also fine if other players politely ask if you can play faster. Just as people join any table without reading settings, they also create any table without setting settings, and a slow table does not mean that everyone must play slow, does it?
