Conceding victory

Post by sarah1903 »

Hi !
For a 2 people game, anyone can concede victory when the game has reached 50% of the progression. A lot of players are using this feature to do it just before the score calculation, which just feels rude considering the computer is doing all the calculations. And of course, there's no penalty.
I don't know if it's for the ego of the players or not to lose ELO, but I've created a proposal to make it impossible to concede around the end of the game (like 90%).
Don't hesitate to vote in favor of that report (or against if you don't think it's a good idea).
#85415: "prevent conceding victory around the end of the game"

Thanks !

Its a normal and reasonable behavior. It should be allocating full Elo on a concession (timing out has a proportion Elo effect).

Clicking the concede button makes lose the game.

In the ELO calculation, the score doesn't matter. It's just the rank of the player.
Are you the winner? Are you 2nd? And so on.
In a 2-player game, you are either the winner or the loser, regardless of the score.

So there is no ELO difference between conceding the game and playing it to the end (unless the conceding player would actually win).

Personally, I don't concede, but there are some games where you can't come back.
I don't mind forfeiting in a 2 player game, but with more players it can ruin the game for the other players.

I don't think it is a normal behavior to stop the games just before the score calculation. It is rude.
I would get it IRL like "Okay, lets not bother calculating, you won"... but on BGA it doesn't make sense, the computer does it.

Then if it doesn't affect ELO, why are those players doing it ? Because they have such a big ego they can't accept to actually see the result of their defeat ?

And I wouldn't not adress the situation it it wasn't a systemic behaviour for many players, even I put personal red thumbs on player I still get those rude players almost every day...

I'm only talking about 2 players game. You can't concede the victory with more players actually.

Maybe they believe it does.

Me: ok, I lose. Just quickly put me out of my misery please.
Opponent: Starts to meticulously min-max their scoring and taking way too long.
Me: Sigh. Concede.

If I have 1% chance to win, I'll try to grab it.

If I got 0% there is o point staying in the game, wether it is at 51% or 99%.

Why complaining ?
You won ! GG !

Because it's satisfying to finish a game that's close to complete. Concede at 51% if you want but at 99% can't you at least wait a few seconds for me to finish and maybe see if i can beat a personal best, or just for good manners? You save seconds of time, just seconds. Let me finish the game!

When opo concedes you get the full elo for The win.
I concede when ever i can and i encourage other to concede. If theres 0% chance of wining theres no point in playing. All you are doing is wasting other people time. I rather concede and play 5 games instead of not conceding, draging it to the end and play only 3-4 games be cause of that.
Its extremely rude to not concede.

Well, there is never a 0% chance of winning (at least 1%). Your opponent can make big mistakes and still let you win.

I don't play for ELO, I play… to play.
I will then be frustrated if I do not play to the end.

I wish I could play on BGA like I do with my friends IRL, even with strangers.
We never stop a game between friends, just because one of us has a very good start compared to the others.

It's not about doing the higher score, it's about what you can do when you're behind.
IMO it's like a sport, you have to work/play even when you're losing, not skip it to get a better starting position.
