Dices work wrong for Catan

Post by MsterDestroyer »

I was playing today and I remembered why I left to play this game from the beginning when it was released in Boardgame Arena. Itt is because the dices dont roll properly.

In my last game only appeared six times the numer `8, and 26 times the number ´6.

Nobody has noticed something similar?

Please someone to fix this game?

Game #365300677

Thank you

I think BGA provide a generic method to randomize numbers like dices.
It would be very surprising if such bug occurred only on Catan (or maybe the developer didn’t use this method).

People complain about the dice on BGA all the time.

The fact is, given all the millions of games played each day on BGA, in a few of them some unusual dice rolls will happen due to randomness. The 1 person who gets an unusual roll complains on the forum. The 999,999 people who get usual rolls say nothing.

Then people read the forums and think there is a problem that isn't really there.

Just one game is not enough data to say anything about the randomness of the dice rolls. How is the distribution after 10 games? Or after 20? After 100 games? If the distribution gets more equal with more games, the randomness is fine.

Really I have experienced it. But only an unique game where the dice rolls stats are like I experienced it is enough for question the system.

The 8 and 6 are the second in the probability table when you roll 2 dices ofr 6 numbers and you sum the results. It is very easy to see that it is quite impossible. Try to repit that.

Another thing to take in account is that I habe only played two games in the last year and one ofthe two games have an improbability result.

I expect this is more than enough to review the dice roll system

Really I am a catan player with more of 1000 games online and more than 100 games on the pshysical board and never had the experience found in boargame arena with the dice rolls.

It might be unlikely, but it's not impossible. Impossible would be to roll a 13 with 2d6. If you encounter the distribution you described in just one game is no proof of a broken randomness. It might be if you have this distribution in 10 or 20 games in a row.

It is clearly not enough. Provide stats !!!

You are asking me to observe stats in the same manner than throwing a coin to the air 10 times twice in a year and see that 7 times it was the same face. I dont need to spend the time looking stats for the rest of games. However, Please tell me who has the complete data for a week of boardgamearena or a simple day and i will show you.

So I think this is the game you're talking about: https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=365300677

What would have been your expectations for the distribution? Dice results according to the probabilities in every single game?
