17:33 UTC is actually almost 6.5 hours before midnight UTC. It was after midnight in New Zealand and parts of Asia and Australia, however.

BGA time codes show your local time you set. The announcement went out just after midnight in France. It was 4/1 for the website managers when the prank news article was posted. Some people set it to show them time codes in UTC but I don’t. I also watched it post live and laughed because I was 5 hours away in EDT and knew that would particularly confuse ignorant Americans that don’t realize Europe just changed days.

No, it was not April 1st in France. I'm in the same timezone as France and saw it in March 31st (and not particularly close to midnight).

Also, time codes in the forum are apparently not in local time. Let's see, local time is almost 18:30 (6:30 PM). What timestamp will this message get? (Answer: I see 17:30, so definitely not local time or French time, unless I managed to travel in time. It's not UTC or GMT either, because those would be 16:30. It's probably just UK time.)

yes, it was posted in the middle of afternoon (french time). Would probably have been better to wait for a common time slot for US-Europe-Asia-NZ zone.
