That’s how ELO is supposed to work. If your elo is 400, and you place second behind a 500, and ahead of a 220, 210, 200, then you’re finishing exactly where you’re expected to. Your elo shouldn’t change much in that situation.ElThoesen wrote: ↑11 April 2023, 17:26 We really need better opponent filter methods in Arena. I understand I can filter by league, but we need ELO filters that add onto it, the same as non-arena. It is painful to get second in a five player game and gain virtually no progress because half of my opponents are 200+ ELO below me. Its absurd we don't have something simple like that implemented.

Arena games that are not finished before the end of the season should be turned into normal ranked games and maintain the speed settings.
Every end of season is very frustrating with our effort turning into nothing (training mode).

We should just go to season 14. For safety's sake.

Yes. I think what the original poster is expressing is a desire for experienced players to be able to filter to play against people of a similar skill level. For games that are less-played, this already exists in arena when one filters by league. By the middle of the season, these games may only have 20-30 players in the top league, so the player is filtering to only play the top 20-30 players. But in games that have a very high player count, there may be many hundreds of players in the top league, so there is no way to filter for just the top 20-30 players. It can be less enjoyable to play much less experienced players and repeatedly win by large margins, so an Elo filter would, to some people, make for more engaging games.cowboy_dan wrote: ↑11 April 2023, 21:25That’s how ELO is supposed to work. 7 Wonders being 3p instead of 5p is interesting, not sure if I'm a fan.
Sushi Go Party I think suffers from less than 4p, so weird to see this change.
King of Tokyo however seems pretty good with the changes.

Honestly love this site but some of these decisions are so braindead. Like for example, who in their right mind chooses 3 players for Catan and not 4? Every competitive tournament anywhere is 4 people. The devs need to give their head a serious Shake on how they determine player counts
Re: Arena season 13: Here We Go!
Not sure if you're new to BGA, but devs don't choose arena settings. Game Gurus do and they are selected by how much they play a game and aren't selected for back-to-back seasons. Because the Gurus are regular players, sometimes they make odd decisions but it can always change again later.RagnarTML wrote: ↑12 April 2023, 04:01 Honestly love this site but some of these decisions are so braindead. well, I totally agree, gurus should be the ones with the higher rate of victoriesJamesWolfpacker wrote: ↑11 April 2023, 16:14 The methodology for determining a "game guru" is significantly flawed. Just because you have the time to play A LOT doesn't mean that you have the ability to make a good decision regarding a competitive game format.
The player count and options for many of these games are terrible. Some of the changes above are better and some are worse. Some other games aren't having changes, like Catan remaining at a 3p count. Catan should be at 4p count for competitive play. The "gurus" who choose a 3p count for Catan need to be barred from ever becoming a guru for anything as that decision is immensely horrid.

Re: Arena season 13: Here We Go!
My friend, I got 2nd in Scopa Arena thanks to an unfair agreement between 2 other players one of wich gave victory (abandoned) to the one who then overtook me to become first in the standings at 2.13 p.m.
AT 2.00 PM ARENA SHOULD END! unfinished games should not count
