Indeed, you can use instant effects during an action. It is therefore abnormal that the interface can automatically terminate an action in such case.

So you have to create a bug report (if you haven’t already done so) and ask for a button to be added so that the player can confirm the end of the action, or use instant effects (which can allow him to buy cards that were not previously available).

I don't think there's a bug, I think both were misunderstandings.

I will can't jump to surviving moved in the replay on my phone for some reason, so haven't looked at the exact game be state, but when perusing the game log it looks like...

-in the first case, Daniel did move to a spot with a guardian and didn't realize it (you can see they get a fear token when things reset for the next round)

-in the second, the log says they couldn't afford anything, so I'm guessing ah the items were just too expensive.

I'll try to look on my desktop at some point this week, but I wouldn't suggest a bug report unless we're 100% certain something actually went wrong. No need to waste developer's time.

My answer concerns only the Fishing Rod card, played at move #238, a card that is subject to clarification on page 22 of the rule.

The rule specifies that this card can be played even if no visible item can be purchased, which implies that the player can wait until the first card of the “items” draw pile is revealed to use free actions, possibly necessary if he wants to buy one of the presented cards.
However, the current implementation does not allow the use of free actions when no card can be purchased with the player’s ressources. Knowing that the ressources can be increased instantly during the main action, the bug is obvious since the BGA implementation prohibits a process allowed by the rule that would not present any difficulty during a real game.

Ah, if you're saying there is already a known bug, that is different.

If that's the case, though, he should confirm that this big occurred for him, and then NOT submit a NEW bug report, but find that bug already reported, vote it up, and add this game info to the bug report.

It wasn't clear to me that he could actually afford anything (even with instant actions), which is why I wanted to examine it on the replay. If he couldn't afford anything, this specific instance wouldn't be showing a bug.

I just wanted to make sure erroneous bug reports weren't being submitted as I know that just makes it harder for actually bugs to get proper treatment.

Fishing Rod and Precision Compass have a similar effect, and there are bug reports for each of these cards, for a similar bug which consists in prohibiting free actions (at least in some cases) when one of these cards is played.
Search for reports about this game that contain the string “Fishing Rod” or “Precision Compass”.

I still think attempting to use the fishing rod when the player cannot afford anything should prompt a warning. That would also mitigate the effect of the bug,if that is too hard to fix.
