Can we please have a no stats mode

Post by abcde »

It would be really nice if BGA had an option where no stats are kept for the board games play. That is a choice to opt out of the stats
The stats is making me overly invested in winnings,
The stats is killing my love for board games.

Can we please have the option for no stats when playing games

Closest thing you have to no stats in training mode. Unfortunately all games played in training mode is recorded as a lost. So it makes my stats even worse.

the stats is what differentiates BGA from other Board Game sites, but it is mandatory stats that is making BGA less appealing than the other sites

What do you mean, that games in training mode are recorded as losses? They don't influence your ELO, so it seems what you are looking for.

On your profile, the section called XP lists the games you've played with your ELO and a few stats (number of games, victories & win percentage). I've noticed previously that games I played in training mode are counted under the number of games played but any wins from them are not counted in the victories or win percentage stats. I think this is what the above poster is referring to.

To take an example from my own profile - these mini snapshot of stats make it look like I'm not that good at A Feast for Odin - it says I've played 14 games and only have 4 victories. But the actual reality is that I've won 4 of the 5 multiplayer games I've played. It's a bit misleading because I played quite a few solo AFFO games (plus abandoned a few more solo games for various reasons) all in training mode.

See also my stats for Castles of Burgundy where I've won all 5 games I've played here but one game was in training mode and so my profile page says I've played 5 games with 4 victories.

I certainly don't expect solo games to count as victories and whether or not to count training games wins seems like it could potentially be quite complicated, but it does bother me a little that these stats become a bit misleading if you play solo or training mode a lot. I can understand that someone else might be bothered by it more and view it as training mode games are recorded as a loss.

Personally I'd prefer it if the victories and win percentage stats moved to the actual stats pages. Just showing ELO and number of games played is still sufficient for a quick snapshot of how good someone is at a game and the link to more stats for that game would still be available. Also the win percentage stat seems to cause confusion for newbies since when you don't know how it's calculated you probably wonder why it sometimes is higher than 100%.
