So rude are the elder/higher players...

Post by kix1990 »

Hi,
I am quite new in some games. Pandemic is one of them but I love it..I have it at home so we started playing then I saw it on BGA.

My first time, I didn't know properly the rules even if I red it. <So I played with 3 others higher players. but they treated me like if I were dumb completelly. No one teached me properly. just like. no what are you doing don't do that , no you ruin the game, why are you playing if you dont know the rules..
Anyway, I've just wanted to play few minutes ago in Pandemic, we were 3... I did ONLY the first turn and one of them tell me noooooooo not the black one, what are doing, abandon the game. I didn't and I said, why ? did I something wrong ? yes, abandon please, !!!! it's the FIRST TURN !!!!

So because we are new, so you have to be like that ? How can we improve or how can we enjoy the game if all of you are like that ? I guessed that BGA is a platform where we can enjoy and teach each over. Everyone are not like you guys, we want to have all 300 points in one game. But if you are not helping because we are new, why don't you play between you ? What it the point to have a board game ?

I've wanted to say....

Do not play coop games on BGA, the player base for coop games on the site is toxic.

Fortunately I have had very different experience and have found many helpful people to teach me new games here on BGA, both competitive and cooperative. A very few I have found to be rude, but I just give them a red thumb (usually just personal, but public for the worst offenders) and move on never to see them again. There are thousands of nice players on this site, don't let a few rude ones spoil the fun.

I don't know that game that you were in.

Normally, if you are a newbie, I don't mind some table talk. If you were on the opposition team.
Because, if you were on mine team, I hope they don't mind.

I would hope someone entering the game has a basic understanding.
I tell my newbie partner, if you are not sure ask. I have never had the opposition complain for helping
someone.

To help with Newbies, it would be nice if your partner is not punished as hard in the ELO rankings, if you lose.
I know it counts somewhat, but not enough.

I know some games, not sure in BGA some game you can play against the computer, so that you can sharpen your gaming skills.

Well, you should know the rules properly before playing. And while I believe higher level players should be patient with noobs, it's not their job to teach you how to play.

Can you play Pandemic solo on BGA? You might want try it that way. Or maybe you can find a game with other novices.

I think this is an issue with a lot of games here, not just co-ops. It would be nice of there were some sort of 'practice game' mode.

I hate artificial ELO simulation in BGA co-op (e.g. Hanabi, Pandemic, Forbidden Islands, etc.) as abandoning the game can circumvent ELO loss and ELO simulation makes high ELO players avoid playing with new players.

Something like "training mode"?

There is exactly such a mode. And while it is an issue with some players it is only with the coop games that those players congregate.
