Scenario filtering for the Arena

Post by Waikirikiri »

The import of all DoW SFTF scenarios has an unfortunate bad side effect in the Arena.

Many of the SFTF scenarios have had little (or no) play testing and are not good nor great scenarios.

I've just had a Arena game using the SFTF scenario "BRASKIR OFFENSIVE" which notes that "The scenario is purely fictional."

This is not a good Arena scenario. It has not had a lot of play in the DoW system.

Too many units, crowded on the board.
Too many medals for the win (10) which too long to play.
Unbalanced combined with length makes for less enjoyable scenario.

While some would like to remove some of the original DoW standard scenarios replacing them with poor SFTF scenarios is good either.

Braskir Offensive has actually been played quite a lot and is pretty highly rated. I really love this scenario because you can win based on any hand you have... There is action in any section you choose! The high medal count allows for there to be swings of momentum and luck. With a patient strategy and careful positioning of units, you can almost insure a victory with careful, strategic play.
I rarely lose on this one, so maybe I'm a bit biased... But in my opinion this is a really good one!

And that's what happens anytime one rates a scenario - someone else has the opposite opinion.

Thanks for feedback mrmanley, great to know you like this one - even though my first impressions differ.

One question - if I may - "played quite a lot" by whom?

It was played quite a lot by DOW players on the old platform. I'd venture to say it was even one of the more popular ones. A tournament was played on DOW Online just recently using that scenario exclusively. It was also chosen to be used as one of the scenarios for the "Champions Trophy," an online tournament comprised of top finishers in various face to face and online tournaments.
I do agree that there are a large number of scenarios in the SFTF database that haven't been play tested well, but Braskir Offensive isn't one of them.
It is interesting though... There are people that love that scenario and those that hate it... Makes me wonder how much middle ground there is with it!

Actually, Braskir was one of the highest rated SFTF scenarios in Memoir Online. Because of that, we used it in the most recent season of the Memoir Online League.

Personally, over the past 10 years, I've played it over 40 times.
