Red thumbs/Green thumbs ratio?

Post by Een »

We are thinking about setting up a 'red thumbs/green thumbs' ratio of 20% (meaning that if the ratio of the number of red thumbs you have given over the number of green thumbs you have given is 20% or more, you need to give some green before giving any more red).

For example, if you have given 10 green thumbs and 2 red, your ratio is 20% so you cannot give a 3rd red until you have given (at least) 1 more green.
After that you'll have given 11 green and 3 red: your ratio will be 27% so you won't be able to give a 4th red until you have given (at least) 5 more green.

I think 10% would be better to stop people from bombing everyone with reds in Saboteur.

Interesting idea, did you consider another options of how to change the way thumbs work?

I use red thumbs for marking players I do not want to play with anymore, at least until they get stronger/faster. If you're gonna reduce the amount of red thumbs I can give, please give me another way of marking those players. I already made a suggestion regarding this in another topic.

@pejsek: Good remark. It is indeed useful to "mark" players in some ways. The idea would be to allow you to write some private note on a player (just for your eyes). I think it would make the job and be useful in many case.

I think I've only given red to players who've run out of time, which is extremely rare since I mostly play Can't Stop. I've never had anyone rude to me on this site, which would also merit a red. IMO, thumbs should be a measure of sportsmanship only, since we already have Elo ratings to gauge skill.

See above. Since I believe red thumbs should indicate bad sportsmanship (which IMHO includes playing in a punctual manner, but not playing in a skillful manner), I agree with your idea of marking these players in some other way than a red thumb.

Another issue: I don't think we should disallow new players from giving red thumbs just because they have given no green thumbs yet.

I second pejsek's idea. I think I've given two reds in my time here: for running away from a loss and for offensive behaviour. I don't want to red anyone just because s/he's a bad player
So what I would really appreciate is "for my eyes only" marking system.

As for this poll - its results don't concern me.

A red rate should be disable when more than one year has eslapsed without playing again.
And maybe we should play more than one game before beying able to rate someone.

In my case, some player give me a red thumb just because, during a few period, my connection was bad. It's a little unfair ...

Agree, I have 137 red thumbs, but at least 50 are from "random people" in sabouteur games.

My ratio aren't bad (8.9X%) :P.

The simplest solution is a 10% ratio to force red thumbs to be like reports of bad behavior, which it already is for most games and players. Problem is you get the same sanction for taking time to think, and outrageous insults.
The better solution would be to replace red and green thumbs by private and unlimited "likes" and "dislikes", then to add a report button (with the type of bad behavior specified from a list, so you could automatically check if the report was legit).
