BGA's collection of games

Post by tboard »

Hello All,

I can't help but notice that all of the newer games added here are Euro games. I think Euro games are great, I personally enjoy playing a few of them on here. But when your whole collection consists of these types of games and nothing else, there leaves lots to be desired. Is there really no possible way to introduce more thematic, interactive games on here? I understand there is always the licensing issue to be dealt with, but that can't be the reason for having an undiversified list of games. There are many people like myself looking for games that have high player interaction. So what is player interaction, you might ask yourself? This could include secret alliances, combat, sending sharks to eat your opponent's survivors, etc. Yes, there are already some of these types of games on here, but they are few in number. I was hoping to address this issue once again to see if any changes can be made to help BGA become the best site it can be.

Can you give some exemples of games you would like to see here ? There is already a wish-list, but as far as i have understood the system each developer decides himself which game he would like to implement ... (soo, the easiest solution would be to become yourself a developer)

(FYI: * has a very nice online implementation outside BGA.)

I do think that publishers are maybe more reluctant with high-interaction games because it's not that clear how digital online versions turn out, or it's just generally harder to produce a very good version for those games. Particular if a game('s fun) relies a lot on semi-verbal human communication, the online setting is quite challenging. And I guess you often have some extra challenges in developing digital versions of high-interaction games, making it smooth and easy to understand is not simple. You already see that with Werewolves where special requirements for the chat are needed and e.g. Concept doesn't allow turn-based play.

(I also think that such games, particularly long ones, would most often be seeked out by groups of friends on BGA. So they are potentially games with less overall volume of play, hence not really commercially attractive. So in effect you need some dedicated volunteer as a developer with the skills to make the game not only work but also fun.)

*moderator edit: please do not name other gaming sites.
