Suggestion for Catan: option to not send me trade request that I can't fullfill

Post by Bloody_Orchid »

Suggestion for game Catan

So far I'm annoyed by the game send me trade request that I can't full-fill, and then start counting my time until I decline the trade.

So my suggestion is : add an option for trade alert, that if I don't have ressources required, don't alert me?

If you do this then the opponent can easily find out which resources you have and which you don't have (for every player)... And then he can easily use monopoly or knight to rob you.

So yeah, it's not really a good idea. You want to keep your hand hidden.

I didn't think about this, but how about automatically decline (after some random delay), so the opponent would see that I don't have the ressource.

Or simply don't count the time when asked for exchange. The time should only be paid by the one who ask for trade, not the way around! If you see that I take too much time to answear a trade, just move on and take it as a NO?

I see many time that some guy who really insist on making a trade, and everytime I lose time for denying.

Even in this case... how long should the random time be? If the time is too small then someone just keeps bombing until he can be somewhat confident that you were automatic not personally pressing no.

What the actual problem is, is the timer being in the game. Players should have good sportsmanship.

If the timer is going to run when you need to make a move, then the timer should also run when you need to respond to a trade. If you're watching the game, what's the problem? Just respond within the allotted time limit, like you do when it's your move.

The hands of the players aren't really hidden. Everybody can see your ressources in the timeline, so all this information is visible, there is nothing to hide.

They should implement the "automatic-decline-feature" optional, so every player can chose if it's ok for him to let others misuse this feature for a little advantage. The trading in turn-based games takes way too much time.

If someone uses a knight or robber to steal from someone then no other player will see what was stolen. So it causes some level of uncertainty. Especially if 7s are rolled multiple times in a row and resources do not get used in order to logically deduce what was stolen from which player.
