Multiple accounts in top10 ranks

Post by wontaketoomuchtime »

There is a player who currently has 3 different accounts inside the top10 ranks, with a similar username and same IP address. Is this allowed? What if he occupies all rank1-rank10?

How do you know they have the same IP address?

Must admit it does look suspicious, but at least they haven't played each other, which would be a much bigger concern.

You can invite them to a room and you'll have the warning message saying "This account uses the same IP as another person around that table" or something along those lines.

Edit: Here's the message in a table I'm in with friends:

I think as long as you don't boost your ELO by playing against yourself, you are allowed to own several accounts. It's the same principle as having smurf accounts, I believe.

You can have multiple accounts in the same household and play together.
How else do you play with your wife or kid ?

But a some point, those accounts will receive attention from other players and people will try to see if it is just a stupid ruse to raise ELO or arena ranking.

As for multiple people in the same household being in the top ranks; well you first have to realize that Challengers started its beta very recently so that's not really difficult to achieve. If they own and play the game at home a lot, it makes perfect sense as this is a deckbuilding game where experience with the game counts.

For challengers, if you want to be sure that they respect the ethics of the game, check what happens when one of them play against another in the last rounds before the final and one has no chance to be in the final anymore. Does that one make very stupid play to give away the round ?

Although it does not seem like the player is cheating (they are not playing the accounts against each other), the moderation team is discussing what the policy should be for making new accounts like this.

I have communicated with that player and he agreed to stop, hope he can stop making *new* accounts.

He still has 3accounts, and one of them continue to play, but if he doesn't make new ones for me it's just fine.

Curious. How do you view the top 10 rankings?

You go to any game's page, scroll down to Ranking and click on Current Season, then select All Time.
Current Season shows only ranking for people playing in Arena. All Time is just overall ELO.
Keep in mind that if you are not playing that game for like 3 months, even if your ELO should be in the top players, you are removed from the list (that's me with Oriflamme for example, I haven't played in forever eventhough my current ELO shows I should be top 12). So if the smurf accounts are inactive long enough, they'd disappear from that ranking list without even needing to delete the accounts.
