Found google translated Thai translations being validated in Spots

Post by N49523 »

So I was trying to translate Spots to Thai for fun when I found clear machine/google translation being used, and even worse, validated.

Two examples are:
• “move die” being translated to “ขยับตาย”. “ตาย” is die/dead in English, not the singular of “dice”.
• “play dead” being translated to “เล่นตาย”. “เล่น” = “play”, which is literal translation. It should be “แกล้งตาย”, which means “play dead” or “pretend to be dead”. (Note: No one will say “เล่นตาย” ever. The phrase doesn’t exist.)

These 2 are what you’ll get if you use google translate, and it’s from the same user. This is most likely an attempt to gain easy free premium.

Another concern is whoever validated these is letting incorrect google translated stuffs in.

Edit: Actually it’s not just 1 user. I saw at least 3 different dog name strings from 3 different users having out of context validated translations. (I.E. Major, Rogue, Pebble getting literal translations. Definitely google translation.)
Something needs to be done with the validators at least.

You can report users who do not proofread and only validate machine translations from their player page.
Explain what happened there thoroughly in the report.

Where can I see who validated these google translations? I only see translators.
Also should I report translators who are clearly using google translations as "corrupting some translations"? Not only are they cheating for free premium, they are actually creating more work rather than contributing.

Correct. In that case, validators are credited as 'translators'.

Okay thanks. I made a report on the displayed translator.

Do I understand correctly that some translators can validate their own translations? Or do you mean that the real translator won’t be shown, only the person who validated the string? Like if I translated a string and it got validated, the translator will be shown as the one who validated it and not me?

Well, I thought you wanted to report users who confirmed machine translated texts, but seems they manually copied google translations instead.
Validation process is automatic. If nobody edits the translation during 30 days, it is validated.

Oh I see now what happened. I thought they self-validated their own translation. I still believe some things should be done about the translators too either way, otherwise they'll just carry on google translating everything.

Still, this is a hole in the system allowing users to farm gift points by waiting for just 30 days. Hopefully there is a possible workaround for this problem. It'll take a while before I wanna play spots for 10 times to be able to fix those translations lol.

Thanks for your explanation!

If you have at least 100 validated translations you can edit any validated texts without playing 10 games.

I also just came across a translator who copied and pasted machine translated strings for the German translation (probably by deepl.com). Almost all of them needed to be changed afterwards: incorrect translation, incorrect meaning, missing sentences, very formal speech, single untranslated words, ...
Is there any way to report those translators?
