Hologram

Post by Fletcheese »

My deck was terrible, but going into round 7 I rolled 2 Holograms and won the game. Felt good for me, but I wonder if this card should not exist. There is no counterplay. Unless you happen to be playing a bench management deck (rarely a strong choice), you will lose to 2 Holograms most of the time.

Worth noting that I did also have 3 Clairvoyants, but I'm not sure they made that much difference.

That may be true for round 7, but I had a very memorable game where I was doing well and lost round 7 to 2 Holograms.

However, since I immediately got a rematch against the same player in the final, I trimmed my deck VERY hard in anticipation, and won the final against it. :D

I dont have much experience in this game. Faced opponent playing hologram against me just once. Well, maybe there were more games but I didnt pay attention. What i paid attention to is how exactly the hologram card make me lose. I think its an interesting card, basically one of those within the strategy of controlling enemy cards, similar to cowboy or ghost cards as I see it.

Sure but this only applies if you play the same person in match 7 and finals (assuming boards are hidden which they are on arena). Unless your deck is insane, you would never cut your uniques to hedge around potential Holograms.

I had a funny game a few minutes ago:

I picked two holograms in round 7 and my opponent had only 6 unique cards, with two copies of the prince that got eliminated by flag loss. In my eyes a clear mistake to not go up to 7 or even 8 unique cards as princes usually get exhausted. However this lead to both my holograms giving my opponent a card that he could use (a 3 power dog and a 5 power teenager) and in the end I was one power short of taking out the teenager. So I lost a game I was winning hard and barely missed the finals (which I probably would have won as well) because of the hologram.

I do not think this card is overpowered, simply because this game is so so so much based on luck. Hologram can also give your opponent cards that he has in his deck anyway, even improving his deck for future fights. Also keep in mind that the players who is "supposed to win the final" usually did not get to his better deck by great plays but rather luck on drafts. So having a way to keep some winning chances as underdog is fair enough and realizing those opportunities is actually a part of skill.

Like the Butler earlier in the game, 1 Hologram is a trap. I've rarely faced 1 Hologram and not have it help me. It's the trade-off you make in deck C of taking Holograms over bigger cards, and one random card from deck B can likely overtake it. But also like the Butler, 2 Holograms is strong. While I might cut to 6 uniques in round 7, I won't cut to 5 most of the time, even if I suspect Holograms could be in the opponent's deck.
