If you have a link to the replay I can take a look.
The card is annoying for sure, but even now I think it's still overrated by most players. I would be much more scared if they had a card that gave them 6 rockets on a 7 roll, for example.
Overrated or not, it still sucks and needs a counter, other than "score more points".

If you are arguing for the card to be banned because it is annoying, that is reasonable. However, BGA won't be able to do that without the publisher's permission. It seems unlikely to happen. I would not be against it though, it is an anti-fun mechanic in a game that otherwise has very little "take that".

Space Base isn't the sort of game where you can easily "counter" what your opponent is doing. How do you counter someone that scores 3 points every time a 6 rolls? You can't control what you roll. You can't delete their cards. You just have to beat them to 40 points.

If you are talking about a 2 player game and this card is on the blue side, then your opponent is spending their entire turn to gain a 4 point advantage. Instead, if they had the equivalent "7" card that gives them 6 rockets, they could be gaining a 6 point advantage. And similar story if it is flipped to the red side. If you roll it, they gain a 3 point advantage. If they had the equivalent "7" card on the red side, they would also gain a 3 point advantage. The card is decent, but not any stronger than a lot of other level 3 cards. If you continually roll your opponent's level 3 cards then you can lose solely due to luck.

The advantage that this card gives is the ability to prolong the game while buying multiple cards. If you are spending too long building your engine you will lose against this card because they have the ability to buy more and grow their engine faster. The "counter" is to end the game as quickly as possible, which is something you should already be trying to do.

Thanks! I am usually trying to end it quickly, but that has never happened. So far I have lost every time someone else has gotten that card, but I don't want to play that card on others, it sucks. A dilemma.

Anyway, thanks!

One way to counter the -3 VP card is to gain a larger number of points at a time. You can then gain points faster than they take them away from you.

I wrote Fantasy Flight Games and politely asked them to let you guys make an official variant without it. Just had it again today, ruined the game, and of course lost. It's just a massively stupid card that adds nothing positive to the game.

Lol. Wrong place, they advised me to write Alderac Games, so I did.

Why does it need a counter? It is a counter -- it's the only way to counter players with runaway points engines, and even then it's not that powerful for a 3rd level card.

And why would the counter be anything other than "score more points"? The logical "counter" to points being taken away, would be points being added. Nothing else would even make sense. Even if you had a way to negate their action, then in this case it would still have the effect of just giving you 3 more VP than you would otherwise have. Therefore, any card or combo with an expected value of 3+ VP per round, is the counter.

"runaway points engines". You mean "people playing the game".

Like I said, no counter, just score more points, which you would be attempting to do anyway.

It's a widely hated card. Needs a friendly variant that removes it. Hope to see one soon.
