Best 4 player games

Hello everybody! I was wondering if you guys could take some time to answer the below questions for me. Thanks!

1. Of all the games on BGA, which do you recommend the most for only 4 players?

2. What are your favorite 4 player games in general (that may or may not be on BGA)?

Hm, there are more than 600 games here, and most of them can be played with 4 people, so this list could become quite long (and even more if you include games not on BGA). I'd like to suggest you some games according to your favourites, but you only played Castles of Burgundy, Decrypto and Catan so far on BGA, which are VERY different games

Can you tell us more about your favourite games or any themes or mechanics you like? Or some you don't like?

Which type of 4-player game? All vs. all? 2 vs. 2 (with fixed partner or changing parter)? 1 vs. 3? Cooperative?

And tell us what games you like or what's the goal of your question.
Is it for yourself, for an evening with friends? And if so do you want short parties games, or are up for a long 2 hour game for a single game?

Without that, the best we could advise you is as cigma said, the most popular 4 players games

Here's what came to my mind:

1. Earth, Reflection, Solar Storm, The Crew, 7 Wonders, Draftosaurus

2. Same than 1 (just notice Reflection cannot be played physically) + Magic Maze, Unlock!, So Clover, Bohnanza

I created this post to just see which games people preferred to play at only 4 players. It could be any type of game, as long as your preferred way to play it is with 4 players.

IMHO, games that are best with 3 will not be as balanced as games that are best with 2 or 4. Catan is a perfect example of this, where 4 player games are much more balanced than games with 3. Terraforming Mars is another example - the fact that it is best with only 3 players means that it will always have balancing issues.

According to BGG, some of the best 4 player games include Agricola, Puerto Rico, Terra Mystica, Barrage, Blood Rage (sadly, very few people play this game here), Root (must have 4 players), etc. I was just curious to see if I would get different results if I asked players on BGA.
