Many games in here is games which can bought shop physical form. When we play games that physical form in real life we dont ask foreign people ELO-ratings and calculate ELO-ratings except in official competitions (example CHESS TOURNAMENTS), and ELO ratings in fact is taken up many times in example in chess like them actually have real deal. ELO-ratings is courage to play games about games. It has no matter do you win or lose some game, it have more matter how much games you lose and win. Friendy mode as option is tread lesser option comparing to unfriendly mode in these sites, not equal option.

But why would playing without ELO make the game more fun?
If you don't care about ELO surely it makes no difference to have it. If you DO care about ELO why do you want it turned off?

Because i dont want FORCEFULLY be PART about making ELO-RATINGS TO MATTER IN ANY THEORETICAL SENSE. SEEMS LIKE EVERY PLAYER SHOULD HAVE SOME SORT RANKINGS IN GAMES WHICH THEY LOVE.

I'm assuming when you play games in person, there are also no strict time limits on players, nor are penalties awarded for going over time limits or leaving the game. Friendly mode is most comparable to real-life play from that POV, and I'm not clear on what basis you think it is lesser than competitive (rather than "unfriendly") mode. Time limits, penalties and ELO are additional competitive features of a game. If you just want to play for fun, then it feels like friendly mode is what you want. If that still bothers you, then maybe BGA is not what you want.Axaddettu90 wrote: ↑11 July 2023, 15:56 Many games in here is games which can bought shop physical form. I can understand your wish and see that it can be hard to ignore Elo even if you want it. I would say that most players who don't care about Elo have an easy time just ignoring it. A mode with time limit and penalties but without Elo was hardly ever requested. But I do feel there would be a small audience for that. However, most players enjoy that Elo is there in every game or just don't care and only very few are annoyed by it. I don't think there is any other philosophy behind it.
It also makes sense to have it even if you want to play "just for fun" and maybe want to do wacky, experimental, intuitive moves in your games. You can play games the way you like, if you don't play with competitive spirit, you stay at a lower Elo ranking and have an easier time finding opponents who are like you. E.g., some players enjoy Ticket to Ride or Carcassonne only without blocking each other. That's fine, they don't enjoy playing the aggressive competitive guys and vice versa, Elo can help finding proper matches.

Elo is just to do matchmaking among strangers. You can find people you like playing with, send friend requests and play friendly games with them. That's the form closest to real-life board games.Axaddettu90 wrote: ↑11 July 2023, 16:39 Because i dont want FORCEFULLY be PART about making ELO-RATINGS TO MATTER IN ANY THEORETICAL SENSE. I think unfortunately ELO does encourage some pretty shady behaviour - I never play Hanabi on here except with real life friends because there are too many people who are invested in their ELO, and I remember seeing posts in the past about someone trying to get all top 10 spots in a game by ELO. I'm not convinced the scoring system works outside of 2 player head to head games either.frogstar_A wrote: ↑11 July 2023, 16:25But why would playing without ELO make the game more fun?

ELO predates the Arena mode, and I'd argue that maybe because we have Arena now, we could hide the ELO scores for games, and just leave a grade about being expert/beginner. I think that aspect, of hopefully allowing for people to get in to balanced games, is worthwhile, and maybe hiding the score would remove the incentive for some of the less pleasant aspects
Re: How i can play games without ELO-scorings?
ELO is a deterrant. It discourages games between hi and lo ELO players since the relative risk to ELO is higher for the stronger player. It discourages risking it in any way. It should be known only to the server.Axaddettu90 wrote: ↑11 July 2023, 15:56 ELO-ratings is courage to play games about games. It would be best to keep stats like ELO internal and optional, public and known to oneself only by player permission. Or else have a simple one button no-ELO game choice.
