new project started on a game I am already working on

Post by developgame »

Hi Everyone
Thanks for any help and suggestions

For a number of months now, I have been working at a leisurely;y pace on a game, a few weeks ago another new project has been started on this game

I have sent this new game's developer an email asking him to consider another game, but he continues to work on the game and has not reply to my email.

Can you please give me suggestions on what I can do about this. I have put in quite a bit of work and really like to continue working on my project .

Thanks for any advice

Are you sure? I can find no such projects.
Quinto is flagged as Bridge, but it's likely to be a mistake as the game code implemented Quinto, not Contract Bridge.

Btw what will you do regarding convention rules and duplicate bridge?

Thanks for your reply ufm!
I will keep my fingers crossed that it is a mistake

Regarding your question "what will you do regarding convention rules and duplicate bridge?"

A: I understand the convention and common courtesy among BGA developers is only start projects on games that do not have projects. If unsure, check with the current project owner.
my practice on starting projects is I only start projects on games that are project less and I will continue with this practice.
I think BGA removes all projects that have been inactive for over a year.

If there are duplicate games, I will continue to work on my project as I have already invested so much into the project- learning the game ( including taking a 6 week course), getting my friends to play it with me and developing it.

Well, I meant these, not BGA duplicate projects, as these elements are the core features of competitive Bridge:
Convention rules of Bridge - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridge_convention
Duplicate Bridge - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duplicate_bridge

lol
Good question

For the conventions, I am going to let players choose the conventions used in the game so all players are aware

For duplicate games- now that will be interesting to implement on BGA. :D

Hi, I am the developer of Quinto - apologies I have not done any work on this in a little while so have only just seen your message.

The game I am developing is a different trick-taker called Quinto (https://www.parlettgames.uk/histocs/quinto.html) - I used the BGG id for bridge as a placeholder for the time being, as currently there is no BGG page for it.

Apologies for any confusion!

In that case, using 21804 (Traditional Card Games) instead of another game is better to prevent confusion like this.
