If there was an Undo button, would it mean you could undo your move in opponent's turn, so it would be suddenly your turn again? If not, you would rather need a Confirm button, and that would be a one hell of a hassle to click it every and each turn.
Many games ask to click somewhere to end the turn. Permit to undo any action during the turn (considering you had the same information before and after the action) would be rather logic and very much appreciated!
The informatic support includes the risk of misclick, which doesn't exist in real life. An «undo» button would mostly remove this risk and render the games more enjoyable (since it is really frustrating to compose with this kind of mistakes).

Thank you for explaining this to me, Jouishy, this makes sense. I probably have misunderstood the original proposal. Undo button + end of turn button is a great idea.

While I agree that it is frustrating to mis-click, and therefore make a non-optimal move, this example shows why I would request that an undo system *not* be implemented. Strategy games require planning, and managing resources. In a game such as Hawaii, the costs are easy enough to calculate. In games where the calculation is more difficult (Troyes, using another player's dice, for example), there is a running calculator before one makes their move.

I may be sensitive to this right now, as a couple of days ago I played Iron Dragon with someone who claimed to have played it (and similar railroad games) before. While setting up the game, I constantly reminded all players that this game in particular is very harsh on poor planning, and in general to never spend money until they absolutely needed to (or had built up a large reserve). In order to have the game progress, we had to twice allow them to sell back unused track. And by had to I mean that 3 players were taking 2-3 minutes to plan difficult moves, and this player was taking 15 minutes to try to find any legal option a turn after spending money to buy track that they would "use sometime later in the game, just not now." While this isn't quite the same as an immediate undo, it does have similarities -- Doing a move, then calculating the cost afterwards. The time to calculate the cost is before the action is taken, not after.

If an undo button is implemented in all games, I would like to see how much my opponent uses it when I join a table, just as I see their thumb's -ups and -downs, as well as their timeouts and disconnects. It just seems like it could be abused and disrupt game flow too easily. "Oh, wait, if I choose mayor in Puerto Rico, you get 3 colonists? Well, forget that, I undo my action..."

I would plea for an Undo or Confirm button in Seasons when choosing what cards you want for years 3-2-1 at the beginning of the game. Happened to me a couple of times to swap year 1 and year 2 with no possible go back and it turned out to be a complete disaster.

I strongly disagree. It works both ways, and not the way you think. What disrupts game flow easily is that with games like T'zolkin, triggering an unwanted action next to the intended one slows down gameplay quite a bit as players are then forced to abandon all their planning and try to work out any legal way to finish their turn, then reformulate an entirely new plan, just to stay in the game. That and everyone just wasted an hour on a close game that suddenly isn't a challenge anymore as someone is just limping to the end to be done with it.

You desire to waste a lot of time pointlessly? Leaving things the way they are will accomplish that just fine. Besides, an undo action hasn't ruined other sites, in fact its made the games there far more attractive to play.

It happens to me once. Really, really, really frustrating. You start the game completely in the wrong way and can be disastrous!

All these games need an undo button. It can completely ruin a game with an accidental click.

I re-up this topic because I fully agree : this website is more than awesome, but it needs a cancel/undo button, when, of course, it has no impact on other players. Sometimes you just misclick or your mouse becomes crazy :-D

No no no. If the cancellation has consequences on other players, then it's too late to cancel (that's the game). However, in some games, when you choice something, it's not immediatly your opponent's turn. As an example, in Race for the galaxy, your could really cancel your first choice of phase: nobody knew what you choose ! Or in Seasons when you choose your cards for year 3, 2 and 1. It could be undone (but not when the game really begins). Again, this button should work only if the actions has no impact on other players.

There could also be a button "simulating": in this mode, whatever you do is not a real action but it shows you "what would happens if you do this".

Yeah there needs to be an undo feature for all games but especially ones that have clickable items too close together. When a simple mis-click can amount to a lost hour or two of good game play it sucks. As others have stated we can't go back to a turn but simply allowing a few seconds to change a clicked thing would make things a LOT better.
