Well, I come here to play, not to win. I don't care if the win/loss is already clear, I want to see the cards shuffled around, to try more things (and to maybe be surprised by a sudden streak of luck, which turns "already decided" game 180°). I have no interest in rat race of emotionless "win-win-win" as fast as you can in as many games as you can, the treadmills belong to gym, not to relaxing hobby.
It's a pity we cannot really chose people based on such preferences. Unfinished game feels like it was a waste of my time, regardless of who wins.
What makes your motivations for playing the game the only valid one? If someone wants to concede, why should your desire to force them to play so you can enjoy yourself be more important then forcing them t play a game they don't want to play and be miserable?

If you want 100% control over the game, play solitaire. Otherwise the other players motivations for playing are just as valid as yours, and that could include not wanting to waste time on games they cannot win.

Well said! Thank you!

I asked this before. How do you actually concede? I've never been prompted to do so. Nor have I ever seen a button.

Menu ("hamburger") in the upper right during gameplay.

Not quite. I can't speak for the person you responded to, but I know that even though I'd like to play games to the finish, I also don't want to have to wait for players who just don't show up and make their moves. It's useful in a multiplayer game to be able to kick out the one player who has run way over their time limit, and continue playing with the others.

Friendly mode is for games where you don't mind if people take many days to move.

This matters especially in Wingspan, because pink powers (and some other powers, like oystercatcher and hummingbird) require everyone else to do something before your turn can continue. That's why I usually play Wingspan as "fast turn-based".

I can sort of understanding wanting to concede early, even if I don't agree with doing it. But surely everyone can agree that conceding with less than 3 turns left is poor form, and it's annoying to have high scoring games cut short and not properly reflected in the stats. You've played 90% of the game, you can put your pride to one side and finish that last 10%.

Yeah, because my opponent really wants to watch me play out my absurd engine cards. https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=406349667 (Who needs the gain food option anyways? ) Feel free to make fun of my bad plays, I'm still just a 300s player, but thanks to degeneracy in my Grasslands and a nice birdie they shouldn't have let me grab early for my Wetlands, I got to run away with what was looking to be a rather absurd state. Rather than watch my absurd engine just steamroll the scoreboard they scooped and saved us a few turns of time.

Conceeding with 95% of the game complete also screws up game statistics. If the winning player would have played the endgame bird for points on their last turn then somone doing just a frequency analysis on birds played would have the data messed up for those better played in the end game.

There should be a stop to this at around 90% I feel

I feel like this might make more sense in a closed group like in a tournament where it could be agreed upon that there's intent to finish games for the statistics.

Otherwise, there's too much variance with regards to the people you encounter. Those extra 4 minutes for numbers could accumulate towards 1 more game for someone conceding early. Or maybe they played a game during their break at work and those extra minutes could be a quick coffee run instead. You're not owed time just because the game is going great for you after all. Of course, a lot of people are dedicating time to engage with others here but people who want to enjoy a quick game are also valid. The best way is probably to create a space/queue specifically for people who don't want any concessions.

In most games I play (outside of BGA), it's usually better form to concede early so you can both save stamina for the next games. I'm still new to Wingspan so I like seeing every game through to see how people move but I can imagine veterans don't need that anymore. XD
