Do i understand something wrong about arena rank?

first of all: i thought im pretty decent in ark nova, especialy because i played this a lot on the table before i started playing here. but bga especialy arena mode showed me, that i seem to be actualy terrible .

now to my point: last season i didnt do great, but at least i won sometimes, i at least got to gold nearly plating and finished on rank 400 or something.


currently im running against an absolute brickwall. i dont think i won a single game this season. and now im wondering.

im constantly playing against elite players in the top 200. my elo is nearly non existant, and if i keep losing i soon will be under 100 again i think xD.

so why am i constantly paired against players who are ranked so high, and basicaly never against silver, gold or even platin players. i also never play anyone on my elo. nearly all of my opponents have at least 100 elo more than me, most even more than that.

how can it be that there seem to be absolutly no players on my elo, since i never nearly never play against them? i would have absolutly not problem with the game searching a few seconds longer for opponents, and not pairing me constantly vs people who are ranked so much higher than me.

am i just not getting how arena works, or whats the deal here?

I’ve actually never used the Arena mode yet assuming this would happen. Plus I’m not usually available for an entire stretch of time for a game so use Turn-based games instead.

I usually find people of similar ELO when I just use the real-time option so that could be a (temporary) way around it.

Maybe difference between real time and turn based what you are matched up against. And there are quite a lot of elite league players and they play far more games. So more likely to match against those anyway

But arena as far as I know doesn't match you with opponents of same level, it's not a classic matchmaking, rather use normal play then.

Well there is nothing you can do to restrict the ELO of your opponents in arena. That’s a core principle behind it.

However, there are ways to play with people from the same league as you. You have to use the old lobby. Then, before starting a search for an arena table, you can change the search settings with the cog wheel icon. One of the advanced options will let you restrict if you want to play with players from leagues away from yours. You’ll wait longer, sure, but if that’s not an issue for you, it’s a better experience.

However, there are ways to play with people from the same league as you. You have to use the old lobby. Then, before starting a search for an arena table, you can change the search settings with the cog wheel icon. One of the advanced options will let you restrict if you want to play with players from leagues away from yours. You’ll wait longer, sure, but if that’s not an issue for you, it’s a better experience.

Below your rank symbol is a settings icon (gear), and all the options are there.

In the play tab, from the overall website, you can select Arena instead of simple game, then scroll to your favorite games. Before searching a table, you can change some settings. On the left side of the game illustration, between your rank and a heart, there is a cogwheel icon for settings. In there, select « show advanced options », then change your setting for « opponent’s level ».

For your purposes, you want « never want to play » for players far from your level, and maybe around/near your level, depending on what you are looking for
