In the game summary page, it says the tie breaker is number of victory points. Isn't that actually how you determine who wins to begin with?
Am I missing something?

I'm just repeating what the site says and wondering what they actually mean. Yours is another issue entirely that has valid arguments on both sides.
The tie breaker is only relevant for the 2nd, 3rd, and possibly 4th places. 1st place is never a tie. Those ties for 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes 4th is what this thread is referring to.Stroom wrote: ↑30 July 2023, 17:19 You can only win on your turn when you have enough points to declare victory.
There is a possibility that someone else actually has 11 points but you have 10 - if you cut off the longest road of player A, giving player B the longest road so they go from 9 to 11... but if it is your turn and you reached 10 points, it means that you can declare victory first.
If you lose, you lose. There should not be any 2nd 3rd or 4th place. All should lose elo as if they lost to the 1st place.jagov1990 wrote: ↑01 August 2023, 05:15The tie breaker is only relevant for the 2nd, 3rd, and possibly 4th places. 1st place is never a tie. Thanks. It is confusing. Fortunately, it doesn't really matter much.euklid314 wrote: ↑01 August 2023, 16:21 Perhaps it was somewhat difficult to implement (within the BGA framework) that in Catan it is impossible to share 1st place but possible to share 2nd or 3rd place. Therefore the programmers might have used this very unelegant tie-breaker as a workaround.
I am just guessing - it is in fact confusing, detlefchef...
